Coronation Street fans 'in tears' as Paul Foreman shares emotional message

Corrie: Paul Foreman calls on his family to come together

Coronation Street viewers were left emotional as character Paul Foreman shared a poignant message with his family.

In an episode of the ITV soap aired on Monday, July 23, Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel Brocklebank, gathered the family at No. 5 where Paul revealed through a pre-recorded message that he was dying and needed his mother Bernie Winter, portrayed by Jane Hazlegrove, more than ever.

The message stated: "I'm dying. Soon I will be gone. I want to know that you are all talking. I need you to be together. Please, I'm playing the terminal card, but stop this. We are family."

Fans took to social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, to share their reactions. One viewer wrote: "Seeing Paul's story on #Corrie and how he is having his hands massaged. Brought a tear to my eye as that's what I used to do for Dad during his MND. Hands and feet, he used to say it's nice to move my hands, even though it was me doing it."

Another commented: "#Corrie oh Paul he's coming to the end.", reports the Liverpool Echo.

A third person admitted: "Can't focus on these heartbreaking Paul scenes." A fourth user praised the powerful scene between Paul and his family. The family had been at odds after it was disclosed that Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, was Bernie's secret son whom she had given up for adoption.

His name was later changed to Christopher Green shortly after his birth. When Bernie discovered Kit rummaging through his drawers under the guise of a cleaner, he initially denied being adopted. However, it was later confirmed that Bernie had indeed found her biological son.

Kit then seemed to target Bernie, unnecessarily dragging her into the police station, much to DS Lisa Swain's dismay. The truth about him being Bernie's son eventually surfaced, but he made it clear he wanted no part in her life or her family's.

Despite this, he appeared to have a change of heart and, to the fans' frustration, began causing trouble for his biological mother. Amid the grief of losing his adoptive mother, he managed to turn Bernie's other children, Paul Foreman and Gemma Winter-Brown, against her.

However, Paul, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year and is nearing the end of his life, gathered his family with the help of his husband Billy Mayhew. He expressed how much he needed them during his final days, rather than them being at odds with each other.

Paul's heartfelt message left the family emotional, and they later enjoyed an outing together at the Rovers.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
