The Chase: Contestant Matt impresses with his cash builder

ITV's The Chase viewers were tickled as they thought they recognised a contestant from the latest episode of the popular quiz show. Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players to the ITV studio in a bid to outsmart the UK's top quizzers on Tuesday's episode.

The team consisted of Deborah, a gynaecologist who worked in London, Michelle, a product consultant from Leeds, Onawale from Kent who worked as a town planner and Matt, a university graduate from Hertfordshire. The foursome went up against Anne Hegerty, who is otherwise known as The Governess.

Matt was the last of the final four and in the cash-builder round, he successfully banked £9,000 before accepting the quizzer's offer to bring the money back to the team. While speaking to Bradley, the university graduate admitted he was on the lookout for work in renewable energy after completing his degree in chemistry.

Discussing potential winnings, he added: "Over lockdown, everyone bought these dance mats.. the steps. I want to get one for two people."

Bradley asked: "How much is a two-player dance mat?"

"Over £100," he explained. "Which is more than I would spend on a whim. If you want a good sturdy one it is a few hundred."

During the episode, many viewers of the popular TV show shared their thoughts on contestant Matt's appearance, comparing him to King Charles.

One social media named @_chessman_ commented on X: "Is it only me seeing Matt as King Charlie's love child? If that fella ain't got a side hustle as a lookalike he's wasting an income #thechase."

@Music751 tweeted: "King Charles parody in seat 4.....#TheChase."

Meanwhile, viewers praised Matt for his impressive cash-builder round which saw him bring back the £9,000 to the team and all four players had a chance to win the total prize of £25,000.

But after answering 21 questions in the final round, all four players were beaten by The Governess with 14 seconds left on the clock to spare.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
