Homes Under The Hammer delivered a heartwarming surprise when host Martin Roberts witnessed an on-air proposal, exclaiming "that's a first" for the show. The BBC daytime property series featured a dilapidated period sandstone cottage in Shropshire that was transformed into a dream home by new owner Chris.

Martin initially expressed concern over the cottage's numerous issues, such as dampness and decaying walls. However, he was thoroughly impressed by the "impressive" overhaul and extensions Chris added to the property.

Chris had snapped up the cottage for £275,000 after learning his girlfriend Jess was expecting, aiming to create a spacious family home. When the programme returned to showcase the renovations, viewers were treated to a tour of the stylish kitchen, bathroom, and contemporary updates.

Set against Ed Sheeran's romantic hit Thinking Out Loud, the episode featured a touching montage of Chris, Jess, and their one year old daughter Maddie, culminating in a magical message: "Always believe that something magical is about to happen".

The scene shifted to Chris getting down on one knee in the newly renovated kitchen, proposing to Jess with the words: "I want you to marry me, will you marry me? ", reports Wales Online.

Jess, visibly moved, accepted with a joyful "yes, of course I will! ", leading to a warm embrace while the production team clapped in celebration off-camera.

Martin's voiceover humorously noted the unique event, saying: "Well, that's a first for Hammer! That was a nice surprise!".

Social media users were quick to express their delight, with one commenting: "Best. Proposal. Ever", and another echoing the sentiment: "What, so adorable!".

The couple forked out £172,000 on the revamp with Martin commenting that this challenge would make the couple "stronger than ever".

Their monumental undertaking followed a grim spell after Chris was involved in a serious accident, landing him in the hospital for a month.

Chris's incapacitating recovery saw him confined to bed for numerous months, subsequently pushing their dream renovation timeline back by about half a year. During this time, Jess and Chris embraced a new chapter as they welcomed their daughter, Maddie.
