Morning Live: Gethin Jones comments on fake celebrity online scams

BBC Morning Live fans were left fearing the worst after Gethin Jones shared an announcement on Instagram. The Welsh host confirmed last week that the popular breakfast show would be taking a summer break, but his latest post led many to believe he was leaving the programme permanently.

In a joint post with the official BBC Morning Live Instagram account, Gethin featured in a dramatic video where he told viewers he would miss them, all while a song played in the background with the lyrics "It's so hard to say goodbye."

The clip showed a melancholic Gethin wandering around, reminiscing from the "sofa he presented," and touching the floor where he "played with Dolly," the studio's cherished dog.

He also visited Morning Live's kitchen where he "ate great food," the dance floor where he "nailed Strictly Fitness," and the camera he "smouldered into". He then headed to the dressing room where they made him "look beautiful," before pretending to weep into a Welsh flag in his dressing room.

However, the dramatic video took a sudden turn as Gethin jumped into the camera's view, assuring everyone it was all "okay," as he and the team would be back after the summer hiatus, reports Wales Online.

Confirming Morning Live would be off-air for five weeks, he said: "But it's okay because we will be back in five weeks. Don't miss us, 9:30am, August 26th."

Social media erupted with reactions to the suggestion that Gethin Jones might be departing his presenting role, as one worried fan exclaimed: "Flipping heck, I thought Gethin was leaving then!"

Another relieved watcher expressed their tension: "Oh my goodness I seriously thought you were leaving the show Gethin! Phew!" while another joined the chorus of concern: "Don't post videos like that! My nerves can't take it!".

The anxiety didn't stop there, with fans continuing to express relief and anticipation for Gethin's return. One said: "Phew I thought he was leaving!!!! Miss them already," followed by someone else confessing their scare: "Oh no I was panicking, thought Gethin was saying goodbye. See you back soon."

Confessions of emotion were common with comments such as: "Thought @gethincjones was leaving when I started watching this! Felt quite sad," and another fan sharing their fear: "Scared me silly, thought you were going!! Thank goodness you're not."

One user summed up the drama succinctly: "Well that was quite the rollercoaster," Gethin had indeed confirmed the temporary departure in his preceding appearance on the show, also mentioning an upcoming radio hosting engagement with BBC 5 Live.
