This Morning fans 'switch off' as they complain about Dermot O'Leary's replacement

Joel Dommett recalls wife's allergic reaction before wedding

This Morning viewers threatened to "switch off" on Monday after realising that regular co-host Dermot O'Leary was absent.

Fans tuned in for their usual Monday (July 22) episode, only to find that Alison Hammond's typical co-host Dermot had been replaced by The Masked Singer UK star Joel Demmott. This change sparked some backlash, with social media users even promising to switch channels due to the presenter shake-up.

One disgruntled viewer vented: "Think I'll go out with these two presenting. Have a word ITV! #thismorning. Another shared the same sentiment, adding: "Switch off - Christ not these 2 together I'm off #thismorning." (sic)

A third complained: "Joel's voice is already starting to grate...".

However, some fans seemed to enjoy the new presenting duo, praising ITV for pairing them up. "2 minutes in and Alison Hammond and Joel Dommett already making me laugh, this is going to be a good show! Good luck to the producer today, it's going to be chaos!" reports the Mirror. (sic)

The news of Dermot's absence will not have shocked those who follow Alison and her ITV co-star on social media. The pair announced last week that the former X Factor star would be away on Monday and Tuesday.

In a behind-the-scenes video, Alison said: "I'm going to miss you," as they wrapped up for the week. Dermot responded: "It's only for two days, Monday and Tuesday."

Alison then opened up about her excitement for the upcoming hosting gig on 'This Morning', enthusiastically stating: "OK, only two days and I've got Joel Dommett which will be brilliant."

Winner of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! Joel Dommett echoed her sentiment on Instagram, declaring: "I'm gonna be jumping in and hosting This Morning on Monday and Tuesday with the beaut Alison Hammond. Woooo!"

Well-acquainted with the show's format, Joel is a seasoned pro at filling in as a presenter and is set to bring his charm to the daytime TV staple alongside Hammond.

The duo, already familiar with each other, sparked a playful vibe as they threw a few risque jokes around while initiating the Monday show.

Discussions turned personal when Joel humorously bemoaned the exhausting challenge of managing under-eye bags due to sleepless nights caused by his young infant at home, to which Alison deftly quipped: "What bags?"

A red-faced Dommett teased a forecast of their on-air chemistry by saying to Alison: "We've got two hours of constant flirting," sending both the presenters and the audience into fits of laughter.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
