GMB's Richard Madeley under fire for 'disrespectful' Joe Biden remarks

GMB's Richard Madeley says Joe Biden 'not all there'

During Monday's edition of Good Morning Britain, Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins welcomed various experts to discuss the shock twist in the US presidential race following President Joe Biden's decision to bow out.

Amidst the flurry of conversation on ITV's morning flagship programme, Nevada State Senator Pat Spearman weighed in on the possibility of Kamala Harris stepping up to the presidential podium.

Yet, it was Madeley's pointed remarks about the 81 year old Biden that sparked a Twitter storm. He boldly put forth to his guest in the studio: "I suppose the problem here for Kamala Harris is, certainly initially, she's been part of a cover up.

"There has been a cover-up to hide the fact that Joe Biden was not all there and hasn't been all there for quite some time. She was part of that, how will she deal with that damage?"

Twitter users didnt hesitate to express their indignation at Richard's take on the affairs of the 46th President. An irked viewer tweeted: "Madeley keeps rudely interrupting the US guest simply to hammer home his personal view that Biden had 'lost it'", reports the Mirror.

Another was incredulous, exclaiming: "Madeley is appalling." A questioning tweet emerged: "Madeley - Biden 'not all there'. Why is this man on TV?"

Aggravated by the line of questioning, one user commented: "Some of Richard Medley's questions were out of order and repetitive."

Rounding off the backlash, a tweeter condemned: "Biden is clearly not well but @richardm56 describing him as 'not all there' is utterly disgusting," adding fuel to the fiery online debate.

Viewers were left seething as one blasted the ITV host for his remarks, saying: "'Dropping off the perch! ' How disrespectful to President Biden. What about fair and balanced broadcasting? @GMB #GMB you could do much better."

During a heated exchange with Richard, Kristin Kaplan Wolfe expressed her frustration with the notion of a cover-up. Interrupting, Richard exclaimed: "Oh come on, everyone was saying, 'He's fine, there's no issue it's just the jetlag'. Come on, he wasn't well!"

To which she countered: "He is fine, in fact just having come out of that NATO meeting we had world leaders including our own Prime Minister here in the UK-".

Richard pointed out Biden's blunder where he mistakenly introduced the President of Ukraine as Putin, but the guest noted that it became a light-hearted moment as they all joked about it later.

She added: "Keir Starmer even came out and said in his private meeting with the President that he had full command of the issues and they covered a lot of territory in just one hour."

When probed on why Biden chose to step aside, Kristin suggested he was adept at reading the situation and has always been willing to hear others out, adding: "I don't know, we will probably find out more as time emerges."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
