A father is left shocked in a new Channel 5 show as he learns his wife has "gone on strike".

Mums On Strike premieres on Sunday night (July 21) and tracks the experiences of two individuals from distinct families who step back from their familial duties temporarily, leaving their loved ones to fend for themselves.

The ensuing struggle due to the absence of one family member unfolds across the week, with said person sitting back, observing the mayhem unfold.

Among the first episode's participating families are Sarah, 54, her husband David, also 54, and their 16-year old son, Alfie. In the episode, Sarah, a part-time dog groomer, exposes David's traditional attitute about house chores being "a woman's work."

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

She reveals: "Typically I do everything in the house. David moves, occasionally, the odd cup, and tells you about it.", reports the Mirror.

Expressing her reasoning to "strike", Sarah says: "I don't want to live this life anymore that I've been living, cleaning, cooking, wiping everybody's arse for them."

"I don't want to do it. I want to be me," she asserts. However, upon learning of his wife's decision, husband David doesn't take it lightly.

In the episode, Sarah sends her snubbed husband David and son Alfie a video message, stating: "I'm going on strike, David."

Stunned by his wife's blatant assertion, David snaps back: "On f***ing strike?!" David adds: "What? So I go to work, I pay the bills, I come home, cook my tea, do my cleaning? I don't think so! I might as well get my own flat."

A puzzled David responded to the cameraman's query by retorting: "It's a p**s take. She's got some neck on her," as he wandered aimlessly around the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Sarah, after reviewing her seemingly unimpressed husband's response to her going on strike, was noted saying: "Is he having a laugh? ! I'm standing up for myself."

The new series of Mums on Strike airs from Sunday, July 21, at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5
