A Coronation Street legend has said their goodbyes to the cobbles following a dramatic few months.

Carla Connor (Alison King) first burst onto screens back in 2006. And it’s fair to say she has since become one of the soap’s beloved characters.

The factory business owner has also had some memorable storylines over the years. From steamy affairs to battling alcoholism, Carla’s time on the famous street has not been short of drama.

So much so at the moment, as recently her pal Roy Cropper (David Neilson) found himself locked up behind bars. Fans will recall how Roy was arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) after the troubled youngster went missing earlier this year.

In reality, viewers learned the truth about Lauren’s disappearance: it was actually down to sicko solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill).

Lauren has since made a shock return - officially clearing Roy’s name. However, between his prison stint and receiving abuse from the public, Roy hasn’t had it easy.

He ended up in hospital last week after suffering a heart attack - much to the worry of Carla and niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).

Roy was released shortly after and headed back to the cobbles, as did Lauren. But Carla wasn’t too happy to see Lauren during Friday’s episode (July 19) calling her out for putting Roy through hell over the past few months.

And following months of being abused due to the allegations, Roy made a surprise decision to leave Weatherfield for while, to visit his friend Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) in Scarborough.

When Carla heard about Roy heading up North, Carla decided she was leaving too - and wasn’t taking no for an answer.

She even offered to drive Roy up there and said she would book herself into a hotel and spa. Carla then told her Underworld employees that she would be going away for a few days.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
