Lorraine brought to sudden halt as ITV presenter forced to dodge 'curveball'

Lorraine reacts quickly as beach ball is thrown at her

Lorraine Kelly got more than she bargained for as she had no choice but to halt her ITV show.

The 64-year-old returned to screens on Thursday (July 18), interviewing guests such as Dr Hilary and Robert Rinder. In a behind the scenes video posted after the show had aired, Lorraine was forced to act fast as the crew played a small prank on her.

Perched next to Dr Hilary, Lorraine quipped: "I'm going to sit down here on this deck chair. I may not be able to get up again." As Dr Hilary placed his hand on Lorraine's knee, she reassured viewers: "I've got a doctor though."

As Lorraine teased what was coming up on the show, the presenter suddenly stopped as a beach ball was thrown in her direction. "Oh jeez!," Lorraine exclaimed as she knocked the beach ball away before it hit her in the face.

Lorraine and Dr Hilary burst out laughing as the camera panned to a member of the crew, who was also giggling. The video, shared on the official Lorraine Instagram page, was captioned: "When the crew throw you a curve ball on air…"

During Lorraine's live interview with Rob Rinder, she quizzed the Good Morning Britain star about his upcoming book, The Suspect, which is the follow-up to his debut novel The Trial.

The plot, revolving around the on-air murder of a TV presenter, led to an awkward exchange between the two. Touching upon the premise of the book, the 46-year-old remarked: "You know how this starts, don't you Lorraine? It starts with the death of a well-known daytime TV presenter live on telly."

Lorraine responded with concern, interjecting: "Yes I do. Thanks for that, I was a bit sort of worried about that one, but it's really good. You're working on the third one which is fantastic."

The presenter also shared his opinion on the recent Strictly scandal, admitting he had a "different experience" to the female contestants on his series in 2016. He told the Scottish daytime host: "During the course of Strictly I appreciated and realised I was having a different experience from some of the women contestants."

Rob continued: "I was in a car with Laura Whitmore and she was on the way to It Takes Two and there I was putting on my pyjama bottoms and saying 'I desperately want to win'."

He added: "Except then there was quite a serious moment as I realised that Laura and other of the female contestants - it's changed a little bit but it's still the same thing - people are commenting about what they wear, are they in a sexual relationship with their partner. And when you're experiencing the overwhelming glitter and 10 million people watching it I think it can be pretty overwhelming."

It comes after the BBC launched an investigation into Giovanni Pernice's "threatening" behaviour on the show. The 34-year-old has denied all allegations against him, but was dropped from the 2024 line-up. Meanwhile Graziano Di Prima was axed from the upcoming series after he was accused of "gross misconduct" towards Zara McDermott.
