The Price Is Right viewers slam long-running 'unlucky' game that is 'hard' to win

The Price Is Right player celebrates after winning car

The Price Is Right fans have taken umbrage with one of the show's games in advance of the new season as they claimed it is far too difficult to win. The official Instagram page of the game show posted a clip of a contestant called Erika O'Farrell winning a car playing the show's Lucky Seven game

Clearly still thrilled by the experience she commented: "One of the best days of my life! Such a great experience!" However other viewers felt the game, which involves a contestant being given seven $1 bills and having to predict the next digit for a car's price, was too hard to succeed in and said it should be dropped.

The player must pay the difference between their guess and the actual digit in dollars - so a guess of five when the digit is seven would cost $2 of their $7 float. While they do not lose any money if they get a digit exactly right, if they lose the entire $7 the game ends.If they have at least $1 remaining after the last digit is revealed at the end of the game, they may buy the car for $1 and receive any leftover money. The game has been a staple on the show since 1973.Taking to the comments on the post @kristinamarie.nj said: "Great win!! This game is always hard." @carita_1 agreed writing: "Tough game you don't see many winning this one."

Drew Carey took the hosting reigns at The Price Is Right in 2007 (Image: The Price Is Right Instagram) @mr.tran_khuong was more forthright commenting: "Lucky Seven or what I really like to call it UNLUCKY SEVEN needs to stop playing more often because it's been so UNLUCKY for the contestants who have played it."

Meanwhile, jennessalouisa acknowledged the difficulty of the game but complimented Erica, opining: "That's the best I've ever seen anyone play lucky 7! Hard game way to go."

Seemingly a common strategy for players of the game is to guess five for every number the theory being since it's right down the middle, you're unlikely to lose more than a dollar or two and have more chance of being left with cash to buy the car.

The game doesn't appear in every episode and the amount of times it appears each season varies. On the very first season of the show it only appeared twice. In season two it made the most appearances with 42.

The show’s most recent season aired its last episode on July 4 although it is currently showing reruns.

The launch date for the new series of the Drew Carey-fronted game show hasn't been confirmed but it is expected to be in the autumn.

Historically The Price Is Right has returned to screens with new episodes around the last two weeks of September.

The exception was 2020 when the 49th season premiered in November due to pandemic-related filming restrictions.
