Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has issued a stern warning to Jude Bellingham reports of the midfielder's alleged confrontation with Gareth Southgate. It was reported that Bellingham "lost it" with Southgate due to his hesitation to make substitutions during the Euro 2024 final.

England were level with Spain at half time but they ended up trailing shortly after the restart when Nico Williams fired past Jordan Pickford. Despite Cole Palmer's late goal reviving England's hopes, Spain clinched victory with an 86th-minute strike from Mikel Oyarzabal.

ESPN sources suggest Bellingham's frustration was sparked by Southgate's reluctance to alter the team when they were under pressure. Former England international Brown has called out Bellingham for his alleged actions. Speaking on Reach's Euro Thrash podcast - which you can find on YouTube, Apple and Spotify - Brown said: "If that is true, then that is disrespecting the manager a little bit. Players do frustration in different ways. I am sure he is a nice guy and has all the respect for the manager, but if that did happen, that is not a good thing for the team or the manager.

"That is something that would have to be talked about internally. I honestly do think the players do have a high regard for the manager, but when players get frustrated, things can happen. I'm sure if it did happen, they would have talked about it afterwards."

Southgate stepped down as England boss on Tuesday after 102 games at the helm, following a second consecutive Euros final defeat. Despite leading England to two finals and deep into two World Cup tournaments, ex-United ace Wes Brown insists the next manager needs to be different from Southgate and needs "to have won something" in their career.

Brown continued: "Let's look at Southgate before he became England manager, he has not won anything. He had no major trophies at club level anywhere. But still, he got back-to-back finals."

"In general, for the national team, especially for England, it has got to be someone who has won, has a winning mentality and knows how to do it. The only thing Gareth missed out on is that experience."

Rumours are swirling that The FA is willing to bide its time for Pep Guardiola to take over, while Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is currently the bookies' favourite to replace Southgate. England Under-21s coach Lee Carsley is also in contention for the role, with Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino also named as potential candidates.

Brown also pointed out that the nation had high hopes for star players such as Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden. He highlighted that the team's closed-off passing and failure to penetrate Spain's defence quick enough were key issues.

He elaborated: "We expected more from Foden, Bellingham or Saka. They weren't creating much and nobody else is going to do it, that is where the problem comes."

"We do these little side passes, we don't break the lines too often. It is always when we go 1-0 down that we step up a level, so it's a shame that we did not do that from the beginning."
