BBC Morning Live break confirmed by Gethin Jones in 'last show' announcement

Morning Live: Gethin Jones comments on fake celebrity online scams

Fans of BBC Morning Live were met with a bit of disappointment on Thursday, July 18, as the show's end neared.

Presenter Gethin Jones broke the news to viewers that this week's instalments would be the last for some time.

The 47-year-old host shared that the episode airing on Friday, July 19, will be the final one before Morning Live pauses for a summer break.

Wrapping up today's broadcast, Gethin remarked: "That's it for today, it's our last show tomorrow before a bit of a summer break, we'll see you at 9:30am, thanks all."

While the BBC has yet to announce the duration of the break, a glance at next week's TV guide reveals that Morning Live's usual 9:30am slot will be filled by Rip Off Britain.

Gethin also took to Instagram to confirm the hiatus and shed light on his plans during the downtime from the BBC studio, reports Wales Online.

Addressing his followers in a video, he said: "So I've been a busy boy this week, a bit of Morning Live in the morning and then I've been heading over here to [BBC] 5 Live to cover Nihal's show from 1pm to 4pm."

He elaborated: "It's pretty cool doing both, it's just the way the dates have worked out, actually."

Concluding, Gethin revealed: "Morning Live is off air next week so I'm going to be here at 5 Live all week which is great. It's two very different skills, Morning Live is reading really fast, 5 Live there's a lot of breaking news but the ability to have a long chat."

The news follows a series of schedule alterations on BBC One and BBC Two, as the broadcaster cleared the decks for an action-packed summer of sport, prioritising coverage of Euros 2024 and Wimbledon.

Morning Live was also taken off air for the General Election and had an episode abruptly ended earlier this week due to the State Opening of Parliament.

BBC Morning Live continues Friday, July 19, at 9:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
