UK TV launch TV dinner pop-up restaurant with Katherine Ryan

The Holborn-based establishment is part of UKTV's promotional campaign for its new streaming platform, U.

UKTV spokesperson Penny Brough said: "To celebrate the launch of U, we wanted to bring the range of content to the public through a culinary immersive experience.

"Given that the British public love a TV dinner it seemed the perfect match for this unique dining-viewing experience."

Food scientist Dr Stuart Farrimond and Michelin-trained chef Sam Brotchie have collaborated to curate the menu. They experimented with various recipes and flavour profiles to craft a menu that aims to stimulate all the senses.

Upon entering, guests are greeted with a selection of popular TV shows to pair with their meal, enhancing the overall enjoyment of their chosen show.

For instance, if guests opt for a crime drama like 'Whitstable Pearl', they can anticipate a meal crafted to 'evoke intrigue and concentration'.

Such a meal might include ingredients like complex carbohydrates for sustained energy, aroma compounds to sharpen alertness, and elements like caffeine or dark chocolate to increase focus and energy levels.

The main dish could be something like fried chicken with a spicy tomato vodka sauce and salsa verde, or for vegetarians, a roasted spiced beetroot with walnuts and herb sauce, with dark chocolate brownies to conclude.

Meanwhile, diners looking for a blend of entertainment and comedy will be greeted with a mood-boosting selection curated for sharing, echoing the shared joy found in humour.

They'll be served a scrumptious pizza bun blanketed with mature cheddar, apple and caramelised onion, followed by a zesty lemon tart laced with popping candy.

The entertainment on offer is diverse, ranging from traditional options to trending shows such as the hit Korean programme, Battle in the Box.

Brought added: "And for those who aren't able to get down to the event, hopefully it can inspire them to try out pairing food with their TV programme of choice at home."

The restaurant has thrown open its doors and is welcoming guests with complimentary bookings.
