GMB's Kate Garraway hits out at 'abusive' Strictly Come Dancing after Graziano axe

Kate Garraway reacts to Strictly allegations on GMB

Kate Garraway has said that behaviour on Strictly Come Dancing is "quite abusive" as she and Richard Madeley called for opinions on whether the show should be axed. It comes following allegations of bullying behaviour against professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima.

Both of the professionals have now been axed from the BBC dance show as the broadcasters investige the claims. Both of the men completely deny the allegations, while Graziano has said he "deeply regrets" the events that led to his departure as he confirmed his axe to be true.

Discussing the ongoing controversy on ITV's Good Morning Britain, host Kate said: "Now still to come on Good Morning Britain, well, after 20 years of dazzling viewers with foxtrots and fake tans... Oh we love it don't we? Strictly Come Dancing.

"But has it lost it's sparkle? After two of the show's professional dancers leave amid allegations over their conduct, we are debating if it's time the beloved series called it quits."

Richard Madely read out an email from a viewer, as he said: "Professional dancers are used to a childhood of this hard, hard training. Do not enter something called 'Strictly' if you can't take it."

Kate responded to the fan's email as she said: "I suppose the difference is with these allegations, it's quite abusive. It's not just working physically hard.

"I mean, we don't know, and some of the people accused have absolutely denied it, but maybe there's a line, or maybe there isn't. Depends on what you think, let us know."

Richard added: "Honestly, I want to hear from women now who learnt ballet when they were girls and stories about being rapped on the knees by their ballet teacher, smacked and hit.

"It is quite a brutal profession. I'm not saying that I justify it, but that seems to be the reality of a dancer. It's hard. And it shouldn't be, but it seems that it is."

Graziano was previously partnered with Love Island's Zara McDermott in the last series of the BBC show, where they were the fifth couple to be eliminated.

During her time on the show, Zara openly discussed the demanding weekly training sessions with Graziano. She once shared a photo of her injuries from rehearsals, which she claimed could last up to '10 hours a day'.

Zara used Instagram to provide her followers with a candid look into the physical strain of mastering dance routines. In one video, the reality TV star showed how the skin on her big toe had been ripped off due to the intense dancing.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
