Angela Rayner opens up about fears on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast viewers blasted "inept" Angela Rayner as they threatened to switch off following her vows to "alleviate child poverty" and her repetitive mentions of "14 years of the Tories".

Many viewers were unconvinced by her promises to turn things around and accused her of focusing on passing the blame to the Tory government rather than truly seeking to improve the country. "@BBCBreakfast thanks BBC for putting on our screens the annoying woman that’s is Raynor!!!! Had to switch telly off!!! She and the Labour Party are inept!!!!" one blasted after taking to Twitter in frustration.

Another echoed: "@BBCBreakfast let me know when the labour whinger is done. Switching over to Bargain Hunt until she's finished." A third decisively declared: "@BBCBreakfast the minute @AngelaRayner appears is the minute I switch off…"

The comments came as the Labour minister insisted she would place child poverty at the "absolute centre" of the government's priorities. "14 years of a Conservative [government] left us in this situation," she insisted.

"We're working really hard to turn this country around but we've got the highest tax burden in history and the lowest growth." She continued that she felt the new government had "inherited a very difficult situation".

She added: "We're absolutely appalled by child poverty and that children don't have beds to sleep in at night - this is the 21st century!"

The show had discussed "bed poverty" and cases of children being forced to "sleep on cushions in the bath" during an earlier segment featuring Zarach charity founder Bex Wilson.

However, viewers were unconvinced by Angela's argument.

"Let’s spend the whole interview blaming the Conservatives for everything! Interested in hearing what YOU are going to do! #bbcbreakfast. Don’t forget #Labour bankrupt the country the last time they were in power!" one exclaimed. (sic)

Another chimed in: "All these labour politicians do is harp on blaming the last govt. whether or that’s correct, they are a new govt and should be getting on with governing. Stop referring to the last 14 years, move forward #bbcbreakfast."

A third said: "Angela Rayner is really struggling on TV this morning. On BBC Breakfast, which is the underarm throw of journalism. Keeps trying to pivot away from difficult questions, by repeating "14 years" over and over again. It's your problem now Angela. Out of your depth."
