John Craven made an announcement on this evening's Countryfile, but fans of the BBC show were less than impressed. The presenter urged fans at home to get involved but instead they decided to rant on social media.

The BBC show announced that the 2024 Countryfile Photographic Competition is now open for entries. Presenter John Craven explained: "This year's theme is 'natural wonders' and we want you to capture the wild side of our countryside in all its glory."

He added: "Whether it's a magical moment of wildlife or a captivating landscape, whatever it is, we want to see your interpretation of what a national wonder really is."

John said the Countryfile team would be joined by a celebrity judge to choose the winning 12 photos to appear in the 2025 calendar, with proceeds from sales going to Children In Need.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

The 83-year-old TV presenter went on to add that the overall winner will recieve a £1,000 giftcard to spend on photographic equipment. The person who takes the judge's favourite photo will also get a £500 giftcard.

The winner of the Countryfile Photographic Competition 2023, chosen by a public vote, was 'Ice Fishing' photographed by Warren Price. Warren was awarded a £1,000 gift card towards photographic equipment.

Applicants can enter up to three photographs. However, this year, Countryfile are only accepting online entries and they need to be in landscape format.

Photos must also be in a JPEG format and only up to a maximum size of 10mb. But there isn't long left to submit, as entries close on July 22 at 10am.

According to the website, "pictures of pets are not eligible for the competition - nor are zoo animals. Images of UK wildlife in captivity are also ineligible."

Countryfile airs on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Sundays at 8pm
