BBC slammed over TV licence as Antiques Roadshow delayed without warning

BBC One fans were left fuming as they tuned in to their Sunday night telly fix to find that one of their favourite shows had been delayed without warning. Antiques Roadshow was due to air at 9pm but was nowhere to be seen when the time came.

Instead, the Wimbledon tennis tournament had carried over, with live coverage from the All England Club. It featured the fourth round of the men's and women's singles - much to the dismay of Antiques Roadshow lovers.

Fans were furious as the clock struck nine and they realised that the BBC show was not on - despite no warning from the broadcasters.

One user posted to X (formerly Twitter): "Bloody tennis [angry emojis]. @BBCOne force us to pay a tv licence only thing I want to watch the #antiquesroadshow and it's not on like stated."

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Another added: "I see we have to bow to the British god of sport in its Wimbledon incarnation instead of getting Antiques Roadshow #antiquesroadshow." A third said: "Why is Wimblew**k not on the red button or another channel? #AntiquesRoadshow."

Meanwhile, someone else posted: "What has happened to #AntiquesRoadshow? [angry emoji] #bbc #wimbledon", to which another replied: "We’re not going to get it are we? Same as Gardeners World. Apparently we’re all supposed to like sport."

Fans eventually got their fix, with Antiques Roadshow beginning at a later time of 9.30pm.

It is the second night in a row that the Wimbledon schedule has taken over the BBC. Last night, on Saturday July 6, viewers were disappointed to see that Michael McIntyre's The Wheel had been scrapped in favour of the tennis.

Meanwhile, sports fans watched players battling it out for a place in the second week of the competition.

But those who wanted their fix of The Wheel were fuming as they complained and hit out at the BBC.

The show normally sees contestants take on a colossal spinning wheel and answer questions in the hope of securing a cash prize, with help from the celebs.

However, The Wheel was replaced by coverage of Wimbledon. The sporting competition followed day six of the third Major of the year, live from the All England Club. It featured matches in the third round of the men's and ladies' singles.
