BBC Breakfast viewers fume 'slow news day' as they all issue same complaint

BBC Breakfast viewers fumed as presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt hosted the show from the red sofa today. They were bringing all the lastest news, sports, business and weather updated but fans were unhappy with the topics at hand.

One segment on the show featured heavily on clouds, with some cinematic shots and a documentary-like commentary. Another part of the show featured on biscuiteers and tasty treats created for the Bridgerton series.

But fans at home were less than impressed with them bashing the show for "mundane" topics and said that the BBC show must have been having a "slow news day".

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: "#bbcbreakfast Coming up on Breakfast this morning.. A man who makes furry dice out of his own bellybutton fluff..."

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Another added: "It’s funny that the news have to report the most mundane things today. 'And we go live to Shropshire where Janet has baked a cake' 'Yes I’m here live in Shropshire where Janet has just baked a cake' 'Raisins?' 'No reason she just likes cake' #BBCBreakfast #GMB."

A third complained: "#SlowNewsDay at #BBCBreakfast as they bring the nation a story about clouds." Someone else added: "Unusual and mundane stories this morning with the election #bbcbreakfast".

However, others enjoyed the news looking a bit different today. Someone wrote: "The best thing about #ElectionDay we get actual news (although a lot of old local news reports) and fairly soft stories. Nothing too political. #BBCBreakfast #gmb."

While the Election coverage has been heavy over the last few weeks, with the BBC Breakfast team interviewing MPs from all parties including Labour and Conservatives, there are certain broadcasting rules that must be followed today.

According to broadcasting regulators, Ofcom, "while the polls are open, broadcasters aren’t allowed to report details of campaigning or election issues. And they must not publish the results of any opinion polls – this can only be done once the polls close."

While the show couldn't speak to MPs or give an idea of how the polls were going, political correspondent Leila Nathoo explained why anyone heading to a polling station will need photo ID.

Since May 2023, voters have had to show a valid form of photo ID at polling stations to vote in person at most elections.

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer weekdays from 6am
