BBC viewers were fuming as one of their favourite Saturday night shows was taken off the air without any warning. Michael McIntyre's The Wheel was originally scheduled for 9pm on July 6, but as the clock struck nine fans were left wondering what had happened.

Instead, BBC One aired live coverage from the Wimbledon tennis tournament, as sports fans watched players battling it out for a place in the second week of the competition. But those who wanted their fix of The Wheel were fuming as they complained and hit out at the BBC.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) one social media user complained: "#seriously @BBCOne no #thewheel to make way for #Wimbledon2024 when you could easily switch the match over to @BBCTwo #nothappy [angry emoji]".

Another added: "@BBCOne Why isn't #TheWheel on now?" as someone else replied: "Football and tennis has over run".

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

A fourth user wrote: "#TheWheel I see us non-sport fans have been mucked about again." And someone else asked: "@BBCOne When's #TheWheel on? Stuff tennis."

Tonight's episode of The Wheel should have saw comedian Michael McIntyre welcome celebrity guests Mel B, Josh Widdicombe, Osi Umenyiora, Kerry Godliman, Jordan North, Rosemary Shrager and Dr Hilary Jones on to the BBC show for the second series.

The show normally sees contestants take on a colossal spinning wheel and answer questions in the hope of securing a cash prize, with help from the celebs.

However, The Wheel was replaced by coverage of Wimbledon. The sporting competition followed day six of the third Major of the year, live from the All England Club. It featured matches in the third round of the men's and ladies' singles.

It's not the first time this week that TV scheduling has been interrupted. Earlier in the week, Emmerdale fans were left disappointed by ITV as they missed out on their fix of the soap.

The soap schedule has been keeping fans on their toes over the last couple of weeks as ITV and BBC make way for coverage of The UEFA European Football Championship 2024.

However, bosses over at ITV have been ensuring that Emmerdale and Coronation Street viewers are kept up to date with schedule changes by releasing new weekly timetables on their official social media pages.
