EastEnders fans are predicting a dramatic exit for a beloved character from Walford.

Recently, Harvey Monroe (played by Ross Boatman) struck up a friendship with the enigmatic newcomer Maya Houssain (portrayed by Bharti Patel), bonding over their shared love for Tottenham Hotspurs. As their friendship deepened, Harvey began lending money to Maya, who claimed to be a widow struggling financially. However, fans were sceptical about Maya's story.

The truth was finally unveiled in episodes available on BBC iPlayer this week. After discovering Maya's actual residence, Harvey was taken aback to find a distressed man with an eyepatch inside the house.

This man turned out to be Maya's husband Abdul, and Maya confessed that Abdul had been attacked by Harvey's son, Aaron Monroe (Charlie Wernham).

Long-time viewers will remember that Aaron was part of a dangerous far-right gang a few years ago, responsible for several racially motivated attacks. When Abdul was assaulted, Harvey provided Aaron with an alibi, allowing him to evade punishment for his heinous crime, reports the Daily Star.

Plagued by guilt, Harvey confessed his past actions to Jean Slater (Gillian Wright).

Now, viewers are concerned that Harvey might admit to providing a false alibi, potentially leading to his imprisonment in a shocking plot twist.

On an EastEnders fan forum, speculation is rife with one viewer commenting: "Is Harvey leaving? Having him confess and receive a jail term for perverting the course of justice would be an easy exit."

Another fan responded: "I hope he doesn't get a jail term. It'd be incredibly unsatisfying knowing that likeable characters like he and Rocky are in prison, whilst people like Karen (and many others! ) are allowed to get away with their crimes."

A third fan expressed: "There are far worse characters than Harvey to get rid of, would be a slap in the face if this is his exit story."

Meanwhile, a fourth speculated: "Why is it I have a feeling we're getting a surprise departure from Harvey either tomorrow or next week? ".

One eagle-eyed fan noted: "Just double checked and we're coming up to the three year anniversary of his debut in a couple of weeks, so this feels like the end of a contract."

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
