Outlander fans convinced they've exposed another time traveller - and it's not Rob Cameron

Sam Heughan reveals the souvenir he'll take from Outlander set

Outlander could reveal another mysterious character is secretly a time traveller by the time the hit historical fantasy wraps up its final season.

Heading into the last episodes of the Starz drama’s seventh season, Roger MacKenzie (played by Richard Rankin) and Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) face an impossible mission after their son Jemmy (Blake Johnston Miller) was seemingly taken back in time by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).

Meanwhile, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) are heading back to where they started in Scotland.

But, there could be much more timeline hopping to come before the eighth and final season wraps up the Frasers’ adventures for good.

One eagle-eyed fan took to Reddit to propose Amaranthus could also possess the knowledge to traverse through history.

Amaranthus is a new character for season seven, part two and is related to fan-favourite Lord John Grey (Tim Downie).

She’ll be portrayed by Carla Woodcock and could feature heavily in the next episodes as well as the upcoming eighth and final season if this prediction is correct.

Taking to Reddit, one fan of Diana Gabaldon’s original novels wrote: “I read the theory before that Amaranthus is a time traveller.

“After listening to Ch. 125 of Bees (book nine, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone) again yesterday I'm convinced that it's true.”

The reader goes on to describe an interaction between Amaranthus, in which she uses the phrase “on display”, which wasn’t in common use until after 1900.

“Also, her reaction to William mentioning Tarleton and Ferguson later in the chapter gives me the impression,” the fan continued.

“She knows about their roles in the battles from history books, in particular her question about Tarleton escaping injury.”

If this theory is true, Claire could have another fellow traveller to confide in while the Frasers face down whatever comes their way in Outlander’s final chapter.

However, some fans weren’t so convinced, with one pointing out a moment from Diana herself in which she’s surprised by the speculation.

In an interview with Survived the Shows, she seems to shut down the theory, although also admits “she could be” as she hadn’t written any scenes with her for the upcoming tenth novel at the time.

The eighth and final season of the hit Starz drama is expected to take some unexpected departures from Diana’s novels, so who knows what’s in store when Outlander continues?

Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres Friday, November 22 on Starz and MGM+.
