This Morning: Cat Deeley rushes off set as she suffers coughing fit

This Morning viewers were left worried for Cat Deeley during Tuesday's episode when she suddenly had to leave the screen due to a coughing fit.

The 47-year-old host had earlier informed viewers that she was suffering from a severe cold, and her struggle became evident as she couldn't control her cough while talking with two medical experts.

In the middle of a discussion about antidepressants alongside co-host Ben Shephard and the doctors, Cat was noticeably having a hard time. Trying not to interrupt the segment, she quickly exited the stage.

Thankfully, Ben was prepared to step in, seamlessly carrying on the conversation as Cat took some time off-camera to recover.

As Cat made her hasty exit, Ben quipped, "You're in safe hands Cat we have two doctors here," before refocusing on the interview, reports the Mirror.

After concluding the chat with Dr. Zoe, Ben humorously addressed the incident and the solo presenting challenge, joking: "You've seen off Cat Deeley, that's the power that you hold."

Cat returned to the set after a short break for water and a throat lozenge. Concerned, Ben asked, "Are you ok now?" to which Cat, still a bit raspy, responded: "I think so, I've got a bit of a runny eye and I'm sucking on a Strepsil."

Even though Cat assured everyone she was fine, fans expressed their worries on X, previously known as Twitter, about the presenter's health.

A concerned viewer commented: "Hope Cat's ok. I've had coughing fits like that and they're not fun #ThisMorning."

Viewers were quick to question Cat's decision to appear on #ThisMorning despite having a cold, with one asking: "Why did Cat go in with a cold spreading it around #ThisMorning."

Another was concerned, tweeting: "Surely Cat should of called in sick...? #thismorning," while a third suggested a remedy: "Someone get Cat some buttercup syrup #ThisMorning."

There was also sympathy for the presenter as a fan noted: "Cat's doing everything she can, not to cough #thismorning,".

During Monday's episode, it came to light that the former SMTV Live star was suffering from a cold. In a segment with a hugging therapist who charges £70 for her services, Shephard explained that Cat couldn't participate because she was feeling under the weather.

The cuddle professional offered to demonstrate her hugging skills live on air, and Ben eagerly accepted. He told the audience: "Cat has a bit of a cold so won't be able to take part," before he enjoyed a long embrace with the guest.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
