Kenny Doughty has finally revealed the name of his new project months after leaving his role as DS Aiden Healy in Vera - and he has teamed up with Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise star Sally Bretton.

The heartthrob actor won over audiences when he joined the cast as DS Aiden Healy in season five, taking over from David Leon, whose exit left viewers and the show's star Brenda Blethyn quite surprised.

Since his final bow on Vera in December, Kenny has kept a low profile. But of late, he's been dropping hints about his next role - and after teasing fans, he has finally revealed his new project.

Taking to X, Kenny shared a poster from ITV about his cast announcement. Along with the poster he simply wrote: "Yep."

ITV captioned its post: "Secrets are revealed when a family decides to hire extra help... Sir @David_Suchet, Sally Bretton, and @kennydoughty join the new compelling drama, ‘The Au Pair’, coming soon to @channel5_tv. A @MediaPernel and MK1 Studios co-production. Produced in association with ITV Studios."

Fans were sent into overdrive as they rushed to the comments section, one said: "Look forward to seeing that!"

"Well done Kenny I am happy for you I hope you are keeping well," another went on.

A third added: "Oh, great news! You will work with David Suchet! I hope to see it also in Italy!!!"

Someone else went on: "Kenny mate, I've never seen you as an Au Pair what would Vera think good luck." (sic)

Sally, who shies away from social media, is yet to address the new role, but she is also expected to return to filming for the upcoming series of Beyond Paradise where she stars alongside Kris Marshall.

Before it was announced, Kenny teased his return to the spotlight, sharing on Instagram that he's back on set.

Posting a picture of a Guinness sign at a pub, the former Aiden Healy portrayer penned: "Being very well looked after by the Irish! Loving filming here... crew so welcoming and generous (maybe too much with Guinness)."

"Can't share just yet what I'm filming but sure all will be revealed soon!"
