Erik ten Hag has reportedly angered the Manchester United hierarchy for revealing details of a secret meeting that took place in Ibiza while he was away on holiday.

Ten Hag's job was under threat at the end of last season, with talk a decision about his sacking had already been made prior to United's FA Cup win over Manchester City.

The Wembley triumph swung support in Ten Hag's favour, as fans and players publically backed the under-fire coach.

A lengthy review into Ten Hag's position took place, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group deciding to keep him on for another season.

But Ten Hag's comments while working for Dutch TV during the Euros have frustrated the United bigwigs.

The ex-Ajax man was quizzed on reports Thomas Tuchel had been spoken to by United about the possibility of taking over.

Speaking on air, Ten Hag said: "In the Netherlands that is still thin we have CDV here and that's not allowed at all. You are not even allowed to talk to another club the moment the trainer is an incumbent.

"Well, the rules are a little different, and they did that, but in the end, they came to the conclusion that they had the best trainer."

And when asked if the United hierarchy paid him a visit to Ibiza, he replied: "Yes, they came to Ibiza."

And as per The Sun, Ratcliffe and co. are said to have been unhappy with Ten Hag's public admission that the Ibiza meeting took place.

It comes amid a turbulent start to life at Old Trafford for the British billionaire, who has already had to deal with several high-profile issues.

Last month, Dan Ashworth's email blunder reportedly revealed talks with incoming Man Utd chief Omar Berrada, before the sporting director's incumbent club, Newcastle United, were officially approached.

It was claimed Ashworth accidentally disclosed talks he'd had with Berrada to fellow Newcastle chiefs after sending a blind copy of a message intended for the incoming United CEO to his work email address.

And United's transfer plans have also been stunted because of Ratcliffe's involvement in the club, with rumoured target Jean-Clair Todibo banned from joining the Red Devils.

That's because OGC Nice - who are owned by INEOS - are competing in the same European competition as United, meaning deals between the two aren't allowed, as per UEFA rules.

Reacting to the news, Ratcliffe said: "They [UEFA] have said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can't sell to Manchester United. But that's not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves."

The 20-time English champions are in the market for a new centre-back, with talks between United and Nice having been in an advanced position.

United will open the 2024/25 Premier League against Fulham at Old Trafford on August 16.
