ITV This Morning fans fume over 'scaremongering' after end of the world fears

This Morning: Dermot and Josie speak to doomsday preppers

This Morning was on the receiving end of negative comments from viewers after featuring disaster "preppers" on the bank holiday Monday edition of the ITV daytime show. Hosts Josie Gibson and Dermot O'Leary spoke to psychologist Dr Sarita Robinson in the studio as well as chatting to the owner of the UKs biggest "prepping" shop.

Viewers were not amused by the segment and took to social media to slam it. Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, it was branded "scaremongering" as people shared their thoughts.

@LisaDominic fumed: "This is what starts the scaremongering - disgusting content @thismorning- shame on you #thismorning." @Rosie12_1994 shared the sentiment writing: "#thismorning scare mongering at its finest."

@TheStranger007 said: "'We’re not trying to scare anyone … but here is a 15 minute article about preparing for the end of the world' #thismorning Hilarious," followed by a laughing emoji.

@lilanniesmall observed: "It’s the bank holiday, and day time tv is preparing us for nuclear fallout, or your general end of the world survival. Just a normal day in the uk. #thismorning." @Itt39354118 opined: "Nothing like putting the frighteners up the viewers #thismorning."

Citing the pandemic as a turning point, Lincoln, the owner of the prepping shop claimed everyone wants to be a prepper now.

Meanwhile Dr Robinson admitted she had a pandemic survival kit for 25 years which finally came in handy during Coronavirus.

Reassuring viewers they weren't trying to scare anybody, presenter Josie admitted to being a prepper herself.

"I remember when it was Covid and you went into the supermarket and there was nothing on the shelf. For years I'd laughed at these preppers and then I thought 'who's laughing now'. So now I do prep myself," she revealed.

Showcasing her own prepping kit Dr Robinson showed Dermot and Josie amongst other items water filters, an emergency hammer and a wind up generator, which you could use to charge your mobile phone if the electricity went out.

"The pandemic was a really good reminder that things can go wrong, and can go wrong very quickly," Dr Robinson said.

"If you're prepared for them [disasters] then when that moment happens you're not going to be in a situation where you feel that things are getting out of control because you have actively prepared."

This Morning is on ITV weekdays at 10am.
