Wednesday season 2 welcomes Billie Piper and Joanna Lumley as three original stars exit

Wednesday: Season 2 cast reveal

Wednesday season two is now in the works with an update on the famous faces set to join The Addams Family spin-off.

Wednesday took the Netflix world by storm when series one came out in November 2022, with the black comedy spending 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and more than 250 million views.

So it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when it only took a couple of months for Netflix to renew Wednesday for a second outing with production now starting in Ireland.

Once again led by Jenna Ortega as the titular disturbed teenager, the show will star a number of new series regulars that are bound to catch subscribers’ attention.

The first of which is Scoop, Doctor Who and I Hate Suzie star Billie Piper who will portray a character called Capri.

Another major name set to join Wednesday is none other than Absolutely Fabulous actress, model and activist Joanna Lumley.

She is going to play the Addams family’s grandma so is expected to have a darker side to her character like the rest of her relatives.

Lumley will be working alongside Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen who is set to reprise his guest role as Uncle Fester.

Other actors who are to be series regulars are Boardwalk Empire’s Steve Buscemi, Return To Silent Hill’s Evie Templeton, Tiny Beautiful Things’ Owen Painter and Law and Order Organized Crime’s Noah Taylor.

A newly released teaser updating fans on the cast revealed that Buscemi is going to be behind Barry Dort.

Back To The Future’s Christopher Lloyd, who was also behind Uncle Fester in The Addams Family film franchise, will be guest starring in season two in an undisclosed role.

This will be the second movie cast member to appear in Wednesday after original leading lady Christina Ricci showed up in the first series.

Other listed guest stars include Thandiwe Newton as Dr Fairburn, The Missing’s Frances O’Connor, The Princess Diaries’ Heather Matarazzo and The Kominsky Method’s Haley Joel Osment.

While there are a number of exciting new additions to the Wednesday cast, not everyone from the original series will be back for the second outing.

It has been confirmed that Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa will not be returning as series regulars.

McShane, who is behind Sheriff Donovan Galpin, will be back as a guest star but it is believed this is just so his story can be wrapped up.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the centre of public attention since they took a step back from senior royal duties in 2020.

In a trailer for the Netflix series about them, Prince Harry told viewers that “no one sees what’s happening behind closed doors” in a reference to how their lives may differ from what the public think about the couple. Meghan adds: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.

Reports suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could receive up to $100 million for making the show, although this has been disputed and the true figure is unknown.

White was behind psychic Nevermore student Xavier Thorpe who was one of the two romantic interests for Wednesday.

Ogaway, on the other hand, was vampire student Yoko Tanaka who mostly had a background role in season one.

It is good news for some Wednesday’s other original stars though who have been promoted to series regulars.

So fans can expect to see more of Wednesday’s parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzman), Pugsley Addams’ Isaac Ordonez and Sheriff Deputy Ritchie Santiago, played by Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo.

Wednesday season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2025 on Netflix.
