BBC Breakfast sparks divide as viewers 'switch off' over coverage: 'Want real news'

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay present BBC Breakfast

As another instalment of BBC Breakfast aired on Wednesday morning, viewers threatened to switch off after being unhappy with the coverage on the show.

Hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent were on hand to host the programme as they presented a series of segments including interviewing The Responder writer Tony Schumacher and actress Adelayo Adedayo.

Viewers weren't best pleased as they rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their grievances on the social media platform.

One frustrated person expressed: "Dear god, it’s still going on…..a therapy session for a troubled writer and an actress just happy to be on the telly….responder plug#BBCBreakfast." (sic)

Another X user penned: "#Hold on a minute…..7.45 and #bbcbreakfast is doing the 8.45 advertise a book, album, theatre show, crappy tv programme slot.…. This is on the BBC’s dedicated news channel when people are waking up and wanting to catch up on the actual real news." (sic)

Somebody else said: "We should create our own news when #BBCBreakfast plugs BBC telly. Look #JeremyVine at nearly 300K
He can get the push for starters and drop licence fee accordingly."

Yet another BBC viewer wrote: "@BBCBreakfast HAD TO TURN OFF AGAIN TODAY. IF I WANTED A DOCUMENTARY I WOULD CHOOSE A DOCUMENTARY CHANNEL OR PROGRAMME.

"I CHOSE BREAKFAST FOR THE NEWS OF THE DAY AS IT IS ADVERTISED AS THE MORNING'S DAILY UPDATE OF SUCH. ADDITIONALLY JON KAY NEEDS GETTING RID OF ANYWAY. !" (sic)

In response to an online safety segment, a fifth exclaimed: "It should stay a 5 minute report on #BBCBreakfast, i tuned in for the news. They wanna do a special on it they should air it at 8pm with wider audience and make it proper talking point.

"All they've acheived at @BBCNews is getting on peoples nerves, I bet this thread full of moans. (sic)

However, not everybody felt the same way as one viewer said: "#BBCBreakfast has had some very educational and interesting reports this morning.

"I love factual rather than opinion news magazine programmes. Welcome change @BBCBreakfast."

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
