ITV For The Love Of Dogs fans issue same complaint about 'strange' episode

Alison Hammond meets dogs named Paul and Prue

ITV viewers who tuned into the latest episode of For The Love of Dogs were delighted to see Alison Hammond meet some more adorable canines, but did agree that the show was "strange" without Paul O'Grady.

During Tuesday's edition of the programme, Alison visited Battersea Cats and Dogs Home in order to help more dogs find a new family to live with. It was confirmed earlier this year that Alison would be taking over the show as the new host.

One segment saw the Great British Bake Off host meet two yellow labradors, called Prue and Paul, which refers to Bake Off judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Whilst some fans were pleased to see Alison doing her bit to help the dogs, some people thought it "wasn't the same" without Paul O'Grady.

One fan said on X: "Great keeping focus on animals in need in primetime!! Definitely not same without legend Paul o Grady but still glad @ITV giving airtime to animals in need in primetime #ForTheLoveOfDogs." (sic)

A second person commented: "#ForTheLoveOfDogs It seems strange not seeing Paul on this show anymore," whilst a third typed: "Programme just not good anymore lacking something. Why can’t the staff star in it or have different presenters each week? #ForTheLoveOfDogs."

On the other hand, someone else said: "Still loving @AlisonHammond on #ForTheLoveOfDogs my dream job," and another fan similarly typed: "Loving Alison on this #fortheloveofdogs."

Paul O'Grady's unexpected death aged 67 in March 2023 meant that Alison took over the reigns of the beloved show. She has continued his incredible legacy in the latest series of the award-winning show.

After she was confirmed by ITV as the new replacement, Alison has said she knows she will never be able to replace Paul, but was "excited" for the role.

She has also since defended herself against critics who questioned why she was given the gig, despite not having her own dog like the late Paul.

ITV’s For The Love Of Dogs can be streamed on ITV and ITVX.
