Manchester United wonderkid Shea Lacey has taken to social media after Erik ten Hag promoted him to first-team training on Wednesday. Lacey joined the Red Devils' preparations for this weekend's must-win Premier League trip to AFC Bournemouth in the latest show of faith in the club's academy.

The 16-year-old attacker will sign his first professional contract once he turns 17 on Sunday, one day after United travel to the Vitality Stadium.

He has generated significant hype throughout his journey through the club's youth ranks through social media clips of his on-field exploits.

And after overcoming an injury setback that has limited his game time this season, Lacey has been spotted training with Ten Hag's senior squad in the next step towards his breakthrough.

The Liverpool-born right-winger, who can also operate on the left and centrally, could become the latest academy star to feature in a matchday squad this season as United prepare to introduce their 250th graduate.

Harry Amass has been making waves alongside Lacey in this term's dominant U18 side, and the 17-year-old left-back was an unused substitute in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Dermot Mee, Habeeb Ogunneye, and Toby Collyer have also featured on Ten Hag's bench in recent weeks as the Dutchman continues to manage youth development expertly.

Lacey took to social media to react to his first experience training with the United first team at Carrington, expressing his delight about returning after his long-term lay-off.

"Been a tough 6 months good to be back out there," the talented teenage talisman wrote on Instagram along with a collection of photos from the session.

Lacey was pictured being put through his paces alongside United's biggest stars and recent academy success stories, including Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

The latter enjoyed his permanent breakthrough last term and has started 31 consecutive games after coming into his own on the right flank.

Mainoo has also established himself as a regular starter at the age of 18 this season and earned two England caps. Willy Kambwala and Omari Forson, both 19, have been the latest academy stars to debut.

Lacey - who has drawn play style comparisons from Lionel Messi and Phil Foden - could have a chance of becoming the landmark 250th starlet to breakthrough.

Saturday's trip to the south coast will likely come too early for him, but supporters could expect to see him make his first-team bow before the end of the season.
