More leg room, less space to breathe: Meet the double-decker plane seat
Presented by
Air travel is a disaster right now. Routes are being cut, airfares are rising, and cancellations are skyrocketing. U.S. airlines spiked nearly 1,200 flights last weekend alone, and it’s likely only going to get worse throughout the summer.
Into this chaos, a new budget airline is taking off—and gaining a reputation for doing things right. Avelo Airlines, a so-called ultra low-cost carrier, doesn’t offer fliers much more than a super-cheap seat. (The average one-way ticket costs around $105.) You have to pay extra for luggage, and food service consists of a single mini water bottle. But with more than 6,500 flights under its belt in its first year of service, Avelo does have an on-time arrival rate that’s higher than the industry average and a cancellation rate of less than 1%. Founder and industry veteran Andrew Levy is pulling this off by keeping the airline’s business model as simple and efficient as possible. Fast Company takes a look at how Avelo is aiming to fix American air travel.
