During a recent interview with One True Sport, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle spoke about a wide range of topics, including his thoughts on Kenny Omega, WWE’s offer to manage Matt Riddle years ago, and more. Here are the highlights:
On a possible manager role for him in WWE: “You know what, I’m happy doing what I’m doing. But would I consider managing? Yeah, it would have to be the right thing. That’d be the right deal, the right program. Not only that, but the money has to be right. You know, I will tell you this. I feel a little bad about doing this, but a few years ago, WWE wanted me to manage Matt Riddle. And, you know, I was into it and I was like, ‘Okay, because we got some great vignettes.’ You know, him being a lot like RVD. And so I think we would have had great chemistry. But it just didn’t happen unfortunately, because they didn’t offer me the right amount of money. And you know, the money they offered me was really not good. Not to say anything bad about the company but it just — it was like, ‘Okay, that was kind of a ‘kicked in the nuts’ kind of offer.’”
On his dream opponents aside from Bret Hart: “Looking back, you know, Ricky Steamboat. Even Macho Man, he was really good. He was underrated as a worker, because his character was so damn strong but he could work. Guys today like Kenny Omega, I would have loved to wrestle Kenny. That would have been a great match.
“But there are a lot of guys. Roman Reigns, I thought that Roman has proved to the world that he’s one of the greatest of all time. He really has. And I’m not gonna lie to you, when he started out, they were pushing them a little too fast and a little too hard, and he just wasn’t ready. But he took to it, and he just kept working and grinding and became a master at it. And I just have all the respect for him.”
On Will Ospreay: “I love Will. Yeah, he’s another one I would have love to have worked with. Him and Kenny had this incredible match that I saw. It was unreal, and I would have loved to work with both of them. Could you imagine a triple threat match with the three of us?”
