Andy Murray will avoid surgery on the ankle injury he suffered last month but there is no set date for his return to the court, sources have told ESPN.

Murray, 36, ruptured ankle ligaments at the Miami Open in his defeat to Czech Tomas Machac. The 36-year-old Scot rolled his ankle in the deciding set of the loss to Machac in southern Florida and withdrew from this month's Monte Carlo Masters and Munich Open.

There was concern the injury could disrupt his summer plans, with the French Open played from May 25-June 9, and Wimbledon, which he has won twice in the past, running from July 1-16.

The three-time Grand Slam-winner has previously said he is not planning to "play much past this summer," and a source told ESPN that while his Roland Garros involvement is still up in the air, his chances of featuring at Wimbledon are far more likely.

A source has told ESPN Murray plans to return to the court soon and he is out of his medical boot.

Former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion Murray, who had hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, previously said he did not plan to "play much past this summer" but hoped to compete at another Olympics. The Paris Games tennis competition begins on July 26.
