RORY MCILROY had an eventful start to the opening day of the BMW PGA Championship.
The world number three had to play one shot BACKWARDS and with his weak hand as well as seeing another shot snap his club on impact.
McIlroy had a battle on his hands to be in amongst it in the opening round despite being the favourite to win at Wentworth this week.
The Northern Irish star first had to get creative on the eighth hole after his approach shot had nestled right next to the water on the edge of the green.
The awkward position gave McIlroy no standing room to the right of his ball, forcing him into an unusual situation.
The 35-year-old took up a left-handed stance and used the back of his putter in order to get a shot off.

It wasn't his finest effort given the circumstances, but the four-time major winner still managed to walk away with a par after sinking a six foot putt after his creativity got him close to the pin.
As if McIlroy hadn't already been dealt a difficult enough hand, the golfing Gods dished him more issues on the 12th.
Stepping up for his second shot on a short par five, McIlroy unbelievably lost the head on one of his irons on impact of his approach shot.
Smacking the ball some 128mph, his iron head gave way and went flying off the shaft of his club.

The Ryder Cup star was flabbergasted when he looked down to see that his club had snapped in two through no real fault of his own.
Remarkably, the resulting shot was superb - setting up an eight foot putt for Eagle.
