Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has become one of the first victims of the new ‘Hawk Tuah’ trend which is sweeping across the globe.

The phrase has become something of a meme after it was coined in a non-PG TikTok, and the clip has since gone viral and earned the female in the video the tag of the ‘Hawk Tuah girl’.

MLB star Bryce Harper opted to questionably celebrate hitting a double for Philadelphia against Arizona Diamondbacks by emulating the viral clip, though baseball is not the only sport to have been influenced by the two-worded phrase.

Whilst competing at LIV Golf, newly-crowned US Open champion DeChambeau was heckled by a bellowing shout of ‘Hawk Tuah’ whilst driving off of Hole 10.

The call came after the 30-year-old had struck the ball and thus he was not truly distracted by the shout, though DeChambeau and his rivals will be hoping that the minor disruption is not a sign of things to come over the coming weeks.

Shouting whilst at the golf is not a newfound craze though, with ‘mashed potatoes’ bizarrely being called out by members of the public on some occasions.

The shout originated in 2011 when golf fan Andrew Widmar called out from the crowd after Tiger Woods had played his tee shot on the 18th at the Chevron World Championship. Other shouts like ‘get in the hole’ also can be heard on the course for obvious reasons.

Being at the heart of drama is nothing new for DeChambeau though, with the American clinching victory at the US Open in the most dramatic fashion, snatching glory from rival Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman had a two-shot lead heading into the final few holes of the tournament at Pinehurst but allowed the pressure of ending his 10-year wait for a fifth Major title to get the better of him. McIlroy hit three bogeys in the final four holes, missing short putts on the 16th and 18th.

DeChambeau pounced on the opening in sensational style and capitalised to land the spoils – though he did not receive a congratulatory meeting with McIlroy after being awarded the trophy as the 35-year-old swiftly left the course due to the catastrophic nature of the defeat.
