Chelsea are prepared to oversee a fire-sale this month in order to fund a move to re-sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old left Stamford Bridge to move across London in 2021, and has since established himself as a critical player at both club and international level.

His form has seen him linked to a number of top level clubs, including the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool FC.

And Chelsea are also in the mix, having reportedly enquired about the fee needed to bring the centre-back home to his boyhood club.

Signing the England star in January or the summer would undoubtedly prove expensive, with Palace already rejecting a £65million offer from Newcastle. But according to The Telegraph, the Blues are ready to sell three players this month to aid a bid.

Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has struggled since his summer move from Leicester, having made just five Premier League appearances. The 26-year-old signed a six-year deal, but the Blues are said to be already open to a permanent sale.

The ex-Leicester man has been linked with West Ham as well as clubs in Germany. And another player speculated to be a target for the Hammers is Carney Chukwuemeka, who has also failed to make an impact since his switch from Aston Villa in 2022.

The English midfielder is said to have a £40million release clause in his contract, and given he’s 21, still represents a long-term prospect for potential suitors. And significantly, Enzo Maresca could also offload a central defender to make room for Guehi in his squad.

Axel Disasi is another player who doesn’t appear part of the Italian’s first team plans. The Frenchman was signed from Monaco for £38.5m just 18 months ago, and like Dewsbury-Hall and Chukwuemeka, Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell if they receive an acceptable offer.

There are also doubts over the futures of further players at Stamford Bridge, including the likes of Cesare Casadei and Christopher Nkunku. But Todd Boehly has thus far been reluctant to sanction players going out on loan, instead favouring the idea of recuperating funds having spent more than £1billion on new players during his frenzied tenure.

Strengthening his defence appears the immediate priority to Maresca, amid injuries to both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile. And Guehi’s contract situation means Palace are unlikely to let the situation roll into next season.

As it stands, he will be eligible to leave on a free in the summer of 2026. Unless the club can persuade him to extend his deal, a sale will need to be made by September if they are to command a large fee.
