Marseille are set to reignite their interest in snapping up former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira in the January transfer window, according to reports. The Ligue 1 giants' continued interest is setting the stage for a reunion with former team-mate Mason Greenwood, who has been making waves since moving to France.

Marseille attempted to sign Pereira last summer but Fulham rejected a £20million offer. The 29-year-old later admitted his regret about missing out on playing under Roberto De Zerbi at the Stade Velodrome.

"From outside [England] arrived [an offer] from Marseille," Pereira told PL Brasil in November.

"We talked, and unfortunately it didn't work. In the last few days [of the summer window], also [there was interest] from Nottingham Forest.

"It would be very cool [to go to Marseille], the way [Roberto] De Zerbi plays soccer.

"I was watching it with good eyes, but let's see now in January or at the end of the season if there will be a transfer or if I will stay at Fulham."

In response to Pereira's bold comments, which he claimed were lost in translation, Fulham boss Marco Silva excluded him from his squad to face Tottenham.

Last week, Brazilian club Palmeiras were unsuccessful with a £16.5m approach, but Marseille could be primed to launch another attempt to recruit the former United man.

According to The Times, Fulham are anticipating another swoop before the January deadline, setting the scene for a reunion between Pereira and Greenwood.

The latter has made a lightning start at Marseille after leaving United in a £27m deal in the summer, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in his first 16 league games.

He spent last season on loan at Getafe, resuming his career after almost two years on the sidelines after he was arrested in January 2022 and later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all of which he denied.

All charges were dropped in February 2023, leaving a decision of Greenwood's future up to United. Both parties eventually agreed he it would be best to part ways.

In Manchester, Greenwood played alongside Pereira, who also graduated from the academy and spent a decade at Old Trafford from 2012 to 2022 before he switch to Fulham.

Pereira's arrival would fuel Marseille's faint Ligue 1 title hopes. De Zerbi's side lead the chasing pack in second, trailing leaders Paris Saint-Germain by seven points after 16 matches.
