Marcus Rashford has called out a false report claiming that he held talks with an agency in a bid to secure a transfer away from Manchester United. The 27-year-old has taken to social media to slam the "ridiculous" suggestions amid swirling speculation about where he could end up in the January transfer window.

One report on Tuesday night claimed that Rashford had held discussions with the Stellar agency - holding strong ties with Saudi Arabia - in an attempt to find a new club in January.

But the wantaway United No. 10 took it upon himself on Wednesday to shut down the report, dismissing it as nonsense.

Rashford took to Instagram, writing: "Been a lot of false stories written over past few weeks, but guys this is getting ridiculous - never met with any agency and don't have any plans to do so..."

The speculation surrounding Rashford's future has increased in recent weeks after he was left out of four consecutive matchday squads by new United head coach Ruben Amorim.

A day after his first exclusion in the 2-1 derby win against Manchester City, Rashford fuelled the rumours during an appearance at his old primary school.

"For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," he told journalist Henry Winter during the bombshell interview.

"When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person."

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."

Despite expectations that Rashford may soon part ways with United, he was named in the squad for Monday's disappointing 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Although United were in dire need of a comeback after falling behind by two goals in the first half, Amorim chose not to utilise Rashford.

The Portuguese boss opted to call on Antony and Alejandro Garnacho from the bench as the hosts aimed to overturn the deficit.

When questioned about his decision to keep Rashford benched post-match, Amorim dismissed any notion of sending a message through his selection choices.

He clarified: "I think about the team, you think a lot about Marcus. I think about the team. I am not making a point, I just want to win the games.

"And you can feel it, I am talking about the idea and the fight for relegation. I want to make a point during the game? No, I just want to win the game."
