Manchester United are set to intensify their efforts to secure the services of Swedish sensation Viktor Gyokeres in this month's transfer window.

According to the Daily Star, United boss Ruben Amorim has made it clear to the club hierarchy that he cannot afford to wait until summer for Gyokeres - and he needs him immediately.

With Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee expected to depart Old Trafford soon, with the former seeking a fresh start and United ready to sell the latter to the highest bidder due to his poor form, the club are in need of reinforcements.

However, acquiring Gyokeres will not come cheap, with an estimated cost of around £80m, a decision that would require approval from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers.

Gyokeres, who has been lighting up Europe with his impressive goal-scoring record at Sporting Lisbon, including a spectacular hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League, is now considered one of the hottest properties in football.

The 26-year-old's contract includes an £80m release clause, and it is believed that Sporting president Frederico Varandas will insist on the full amount if Gyokeres opts for a mid-season exit.

This development has put several of Europe's top clubs on high alert, potentially triggering a frantic race for his signature. However, United's appointment of Amorim, Gyokeres' former boss at Sporting, could give them the edge in securing the player's services.

Amorim and Gyokeres shared a strong bond during their stint in Lisbon. Meanwhile, United, being one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League this season, are urgently seeking a top-notch striker.
