Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spotted at Premier League match as Man Utd hero fuels rumours

Could Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be next in line to take the Wolves job after Gary O’Neil? That’s what fans of the Molineux outfit have been asking after the ex-Manchester United boss was spotted in the West Midlands on Saturday afternoon.

O’Neil had looked like a dead man walking after Wolves suffered a humiliating defeat against fellow strugglers West Ham United last week. It was a match that ended in members of his own squad starting rows with opposition players.

However, fast forward a week and the ex-Bournemouth chief is still in a job, but with Wolves languishing in the relegation zone, O’Neil has next to no margin of error.

It’s why after Solskjaer was spotted in the stands for Saturday’s match between Wolves and another one of their relegation rivals, Ipswich Town, speculation on social media began to grow.

@MarkHaw25945061 wrote on X: “Got 2nd in his first season at Man U - I think he’s a decent choice and worth a punt - great man manager and will get a load of respect he’s won the lot so has a good pedigree.”

@SunilBagha replied: “If this is real, I’ll be happy! Sign him up and sack GON.”

@kingkevg1 added a ponderous: “Hmmm,” capped off with a looking-eyes emoji.

While the details surrounding Solskjaer’s trip to Wolverhampton aren’t yet known, he may have simply been in town to keep an eye on his compatriot Jorgen Strand Larsen who started up front for Wolves.

And the chances of him being ushered in remain slim, should the Norweigian's own claims stand up to scrutiny.

Solskjaer revealed earlier this year that he has no intention of returning to club management, having been offered several jobs.

When asked about his future plans in management, the Champions League winner told NRK podcast Bakrommet: "I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, when Stale finds out that he doesn't want it anymore, I'm happy to enter into a conversation. I would say 'yes' any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit and talk about jobs that other people have.

“But of course, I would say yes. No, I'm not [waiting for the job]. Firstly, nothing is better than Norway qualifying for a [major] tournament. If we manage to do it now and qualify for the World Cup in 2026, it's time. That's what we all hope for. And we hope we do it as soon as possible, while Stale is there."

He added: "It must be something exciting enough, together with the right people. But I feel so well now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to travel from Nordmore [in Norway]. I think that a national team could suit me, but then it can't be on the other side of the globe.

“I had two options, but it would have taken half a day to travel, and there is a time difference in the picture, so I opted out. Even if I could then take part in the championship."
