Manchester United have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon over the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new manager.
On Tuesday, Sporting confirmed that United had expressed interest in activating Amorim's €10million (£8.3m) release clause, with discussions over a compensation package underway.
As report the Manchester Evening News, United have now agreed a fee to bring Amorim to Old Trafford and are working on a deal to recruit his Sporting first-team coaches, Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido.
Fernandes, 29, and Candido, 28, have been instrumental in Amorim's success at Sporting, having followed him from Barga in 2020.
In a statement on Tuesday, Sporting said: "Manchester United has expressed an interest in hiring coach Ruben Amorim, with the board of directors of Sporting referring to the terms and conditions set out in the employment contract in force between the company and the coach."
The statement added: "Specifically the respective termination clause and the amount of €10million. Manchester United has expressed an interest in paying Sporting the amount of the aforementioned clause."
Amorim has previously likened his relationship with Fernandes to that of Bobby Robson and Jose Mourinho, with Amorim set to become United's sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
Erik ten Hag was dismissed following United's most dismal start to a Premier League season, with the responsibility of steering the team towards European qualification now falling on Amorim.
Amorim led Sporting to their first league championship in nearly two decades during his inaugural full season at the helm in 2020/21. Despite finishing second and fourth in the subsequent two seasons, Amorim secured another league title in 2023/24, with Sporting clinching the championship by a comfortable 10-point margin.
