Christian Eriksen has confirmed he isn't holding talks to remain at Manchester United at the end of the 2024/25 season. The 32-year-old midfielder's contract expires next summer, and he has suggested he plans to pursue a new challenge away from Old Trafford while on international duty with Denmark.

Erik ten Hag made Eriksen one of his first signings as United manager in 2022, snapping him up on a free transfer after his return to football on loan at Brentford.

The former Tottenham midfielder has made 80 appearances across his three-year deal so far, scoring six goals and registering 16 assists.

He played a crucial role in Ten Hag's maiden season, in which United lifted the Carabao Cup and finished third in the Premier League.

However, his status lowered last term, leading to intense speculation surrounding his future amid reported interest from Ajax, Anderlecht and Real Betis, among other clubs.

Eriksen has insisted he never considered leaving United in the summer, though, and that the club didn't inform him of their desire to sell.

"I had no thoughts about moving on, and I didn't hear from the club that they wanted to sell me or that I had to leave," Eriksen told Bold at Denmark's team hotel in Alicante.

"I really just felt that the family and I were doing really well. If something really exciting came along, or something where I really felt: 'I want to try this,' then fair enough, but it wasn't something that I had to leave."

But Eriksen has been widely mooted to depart next summer when he will become a free agent once again.

The experienced playmaker has admitted he isn't holding talks with United over a potential extension and that he will be in a different position to leave at the end of the campaign than in recent months.

"No, we are not there at the moment [talks about staying put]," Eriksen explained.

He added: "I have one year left, and then we can have another conversation next year when you stand in a different place."

Eriksen has enjoyed a renaissance this season, starting in six of United's seven matches between the September and October international breaks.

The Dane has supplied three goals and three assists in 519 minutes, averaging a contribution every 87 minutes.

His form has prompted Ten Hag to deploy him alongside Kobbie Mainoo more often than Casemiro and new £50million arrival Manuel Ugarte.

But Eriksen's upcoming departure will likely leave the Dutchman - or whoever is in charge - needing to dip into the transfer market again.
