Wayne Rooney, the Plymouth boss, was shown the red card on Saturday afternoon. The 38 year old manager was left fuming after his team conceded a late equaliser to Blackburn Rovers at Home Park.

Michael Obafemi had put the Pilgrims in the lead with an early goal, only for Joe Rankin-Costello to level the score in the 86th minute. Rooney was livid, arguing with the fourth official over what he believed was a foul in the build-up to the goal.

Despite his protests, he was sent off.

Yet, there was another twist in the story as Plymouth, now without their manager, regained the lead in the 97th minute. Morgan Whittaker scored the decisive goal, sending Home Park into euphoria.

After the final whistle, Rooney returned to the pitch to join his players in celebrating their exhilarating win. This victory marks three consecutive wins for Rooney's Plymouth, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

One fan praised Rooney on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: "To be fair Wayne Rooney is doing a very good job at Plymouth Argyle, good young team and play decent football," Another supporter added: "Plymouth are a much better team than some of our fans thought after they'd beaten us. Rooney is doing a decent job," A third fan posted: "Wayne Rooney you are HIM fella!"

"Argyle score in the 97th min. Totally deserved. Rooney has improved them massively. Despite him being sent off," one fan remarked amusingly.

Another supporter chimed in, adding: "Rooney is actually doing a decent job at Plymouth, considering the squad, they're playing well at the moment!"
