Arne Slot

Liverpool enjoyed a relatively quiet first transfer window of the Arne Slot era, with Federico Chiesa the only player to link up with the Reds for the Premier League season. Their only other signing, Giorgi Mamardashvili, will spend the remainder of the campaign on loan at Valencia.

But there could yet be more business with free agents still able to sign for top-flight teams and other transfer windows remaining open. Express Sport looks at some potential moves.

Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool may still benefit from the addition of another midfielder. A No 6 was a high priority earlier in the window but interest in securing that profile of player cooled after Martin Zubimendi rejected a switch to Anfield.

While not strictly a defensive midfielder, Rabiot would provide Slot with a box-to-box option in midfield after leaving Juventus. A move to Liverpool would come two years after he was strongly linked with Manchester United.

Mario Hermoso

Slot has not seemed entirely convinced by his centre-back options. Jarell Quansah was hauled off at half-time on the opening day of the Premier League season and Ibrahima Konate has played alongside Virgil van Dijk in the three halves of football since.

Liverpool were linked with various centre-backs during the summer but there was no value to be found, particularly with Crystal Palace demanding £75m to part ways with Marc Guehi. Former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, 31, would add experience to Liverpool’s back line.

Joel Matip

Alternatively, Liverpool could bring back a familiar face. Matip remains without a club since leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

The Cameroon international might be surprised at the lack of options and be open to a return to Anfield. It would be a mutually beneficial deal for everyone involved.

Joe Gomez

Several transfer windows around the world remain open and Liverpool could still offload some of the fringe players who do not feature in Slot’s plans. One of those individuals is Gomez, who was not included in the squad for the win over Ipswich and was an unused sub for the triumph against Brentford.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are potential destinations but many of the wealthier Saudi clubs have filled their quota for foreign players.

Endo Wataru

Endo has also struggled to convince Slot that he should be part of his plans. The midfielder was liked by Jurgen Klopp but does not seem to have a long-term future at Anfield.

The Japan international has several options for destinations around the world even after the Premier League window closed on Friday.
