Ivan Toney has broken his silence after completing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli from Brentford, despite a host of Premier League interest in the England forward over the past year.

The 28-year-old attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as he entered the final year of his contract in west London, but opted to head to the Middle East for a reported £40million.

But amid the chaos that saw Victor Osimhen's potential moves to Al-Ahli and Chelsea fall apart, Toney agreed terms with the Saudi side and had a medical in London before being announced as their new player. He will link up with Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.

Taking to Instagram before the Bees' match with Southampton on Saturday, Toney wrote: “Where do I even begin. It’s hard to find the right words to express what Brentford FC means to me. From the moment I first stepped onto the pitch wearing the shirt, I knew I was part of something special.

"My first and most important shout out is to 'The Bees' simply the best and most incredible fans in the world. Together, we’ve shared unforgettable moments - highs, lows, challenges, and triumphs that will stay with me forever. The love and support you’ve shown me through thick and thin is something I will remember for the rest of my life.

"I would like to say a special thank you to my gaffer, Thomas Frank! You trusted me and helped make me the player I am today, I can only hope I repaid back your faith a little bit. Brentford FC, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’ll always carry the memories I’ve made here.

"Gaining promotion to the Premier League and earning my first England call up during my time here were special moments. I will also never forget my comeback game and the atmosphere of that night at the Community Stadium, that day emphasised how special this club is.

"As I prepare to begin this new journey, I want to thank each and every one of you for your unconditional support. To my teammates, the manager, the backroom staff, the owners, and again, a special mention to The Bees - thank you. There’s no need for onion chopping, because as I always say - see you soon, it’s never a goodbye. Ivan."

Speaking after Toney's move was confirmed late on deadline day, Brentford boss Frank paid tribute to one of the club's greatest-ever players. "It's been a pleasure to work with Ivan over the last four years," Frank said.

"He has averaged more than one goal every two games, which is an unbelievable number. On the pitch, he has been a fantastic goalscorer, link-up player and leader. He has pushed the team, the squad and himself."

He added: "Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend."
