Sir Dave Brailsford's philosophy of marginal gains appears to have influenced Manchester United's plans for their pre-season tour of the United States. United have landed in Los Angeles for the start of a three-game tour, which will also see Erik ten Hag and his players visit San Diego and South Carolina.

On Wednesday, the Red Devils landed at a private terminal at LAX at around 5.20pm local time before receiving a police escort to the SLS Beverly Hills Hotel.

Among the travelling party was a strong INEOS presence, including Brailsford, who is already looking for marginal gains to improve on-field performance and off-field standards.

United chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox have also joined the squad and staff across the Atlantic.

But Brailsford's presence is notable, and he could be acting as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's eyes and ears ahead of the first full season of his reign over football operations.

According to the Mail, United have put multiple measures in place to ensure Ten Hag's squad get the most out of their Stateside preparations.

The club's physical performance team are said to have compiled a detailed plan to help players recover from the 11-hour flight from Manchester.

Los Angeles is eight hours behind the UK, so the report adds that United's stars were also kept awake as late as possible after dinner on Wednesday evening to counter jet lag.

Timing training sessions at UCLA to target natural light at the best time of day is another anti-jet lag measure said to have been planned.

It's claimed that players are also wearing individually tailored compression garments, which encourage blood circulation after the lengthy stint in the air.

Designated windows to eat and sleep have also reportedly been put in place, with chef Omar Meziane and an elite nutrition team organising meals.

Hydration is also key in California's traditionally hot conditions, so there is a plan in place for that area of welfare, too.

United will train on Thursday and Friday before facing Premier League title contenders Arsenal in a mouthwatering clash at the incredible SoFi Stadium.

Over 70,000 fans are expected to be in attendance in a sold-out showcase between two English giants.

Ten Hag will then take his squad to San Diego, where La Liga outfit Real Betis await at the Snapdragon Stadium next Thursday.

United's final destination is South Carolina, where the Williams-Brice Stadium will host another blockbuster meeting against bitter rivals Liverpool.
