Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been called out by former Switzerland star Ramon Vega ahead of England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final. The ex-Tottenham defender is extremely confident of a Switzerland victory in Dusseldorf and wants an invite to be a guest in the BBC studio for the crunch tie.

Lineker and Shearer have been hugely critical of England’s performances this summer. Shearer has even declared the Three Lions as underdogs for the game following another below-par performance in the extra-time victory over Slovakia.

Vega, who played 23 times for Switzerland and featured at Euro 1996, wants to be in the studio to see the reactions of Lineker and Shearer to what he believes will be a victory for his nation. He has promised to bring Swiss cheese if he is allowed into the BBC’s base.

“I would love to be in the studio with those guys, both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, just to see their faces!” Vega told the Mirror.

“I’ve been following their comments and what they have been saying throughout the tournament and let’s see what happens now.

“We believe we will win but I’ll bring the best Swiss cheese, the finest raclette cheese, and they can eat that when Switzerland win. I’ll happily eat fish and chips if England win - but, don’t worry, it won’t come to that!”

Lineker and Shearer faced the wrath of the England camp, including captain Harry Kane, after calling out the performances of Gareth Southgate’s side during the group stages.

But the former attacking duo have not backed down after Kane and Jude Bellingham saved England from a disaster against Slovakia. Kane scored in extra-time after Bellingham struck an acrobatic equaliser in the 95th minute.

Shearer said on The Rest Is Football: “It was desperation. It was desperate. They were so bad, it was untrue. I was thinking Iceland – 2016, was it? – 2016 all over again, with much better players. It was that bad.

“England were offering nothing. Nothing at all. And I just couldn’t see where it was going to come from. And then a piece of brilliance.”

Host Lineker continued: “It’s difficult in a way to know how to pitch the response to it, isn’t it. Because, ultimately, England are through to the quarter-finals. They found a way, through the sheer kind of determination and brilliance of Jude Bellingham at the end.

“But you can’t gloss over the problems and the performance.”
