Anthony Gordon is reportedly open to joining Liverpool this summer despite his success at Newcastle. The England international, currently at Euro 2024 with his country, has just enjoyed the best season of his career in what was his first full campaign with the Magpies.

The 23-year-old, who signed for Newcastle from Everton for £45million in January 2023, returned 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions under Eddie Howe.

Gordon's form saw him named in England's 26-man squad for the Euros over the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford, all of whom have superior senior international experience.

Liverpool have held talks about signing the former Everton forward in the last few days. Discussions between the two clubs fell apart after the Reds made it clear they would not entertain the idea of using centre-back Jarell Quansah in part-exchange.

The Guardian say that despite that, Liverpool remain interested in signing Gordon despite talks over a deal breaking down. They could re-engage those negotiations.

And per Fabrizio Romano, speaking on Playback, Gordon is open to moving to Anfield. The forward is thought to have been a boyhood Liverpool fan growing up and has publicly admitted his love for the club's legendary former captain Steven Gerrard.

Gordon told Gary Neville on The Overlap: "Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player."

Liverpool could yet firm up their interest in Gordon with a bid ahead of the Premier League's accounting deadline on Sunday. It is unclear how much any potential move would cost, though.

Newcastle have since agreed a £33m deal to send 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton to help ease their financial concerns.

Minteh has never played for Newcastle but had a successful stint on loan at Feyenoord last season under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Everton had held talks about signing the Gambian but could not come to an agreement over a swap deal that would have included Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The north east club are under pressure to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability regulations and have held talks over the departure of multiple players.

They spoke to Chelsea about sending Alexander Isak to Stamford Bridge but it is thought they might demand as much as £150million for the Swede.

Newcastle are also talking with Nottingham Forest about a deal that would see Isak's international team-mate Anthony Elanga move to St James' Park with Elliot Anderson heading the other way.
