Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with Nottingham Forest over a swap deal involving two young stars. The Magpies are set to cash in on winger Yankuba Minteh before Sunday's PSR deadline despite his stellar 2023/24 season on loan at Feyenoord.

Brighton and Everton have both shown interest in £30million-rated Minteh, who could bank Newcastle a tidy profit. But the 19-year-old's exit would leave Eddie Howe and co. light in wide areas.

Forest star Anthony Elanga could be the man to replace him. According to The Telegraph, talks are underway between the two clubs over a move which would see Newcastle's Elliot Anderson head to the City Ground and Elanga move in the opposite direction.

Elanga excelled at Forest last term, scoring five Premier League goals and notching nine assists after joining them from Manchester United in a £15m deal. And given his age, there could be even more to come from the 22-year-old.

Despite the fact Elanga would be an exciting addition to Howe's squad, many fans may feel aggrieved at seeing academy product Anderson leave the north-east. The youngster has made more than 50 appearances for Newcastle's first team and he has been tipped to enjoy a bright future.

The reported swap proposal is the latest development in a frenzy of activity at St James' Park. It is understood that the Magpies need to sell to avoid punishment for breaching PSR rules after points deductions were dished out to Forest and Everton last campaign.

But Howe is determined to keep hold of star striker Alexander Isak and England winger Anthony Gordon. Newcastle don't have the pulling power of European football in this summer's transfer market after a seventh-place Premier League finish.

Leading up to the transfer window, back in May, Howe warned fans that it would not be a summer of frivolous spending. "Without trying to predict things, which is very difficult to do, no, I don’t see a way that we can have a mass overhaul," he admitted.

"I think it’s almost impossible because of Financial Fair Play rules. Any player that we lose from our squad, we’ll have to replace. So that costs a lot of money—to find elite Premier League players. In terms of trading, of course, I’m sure there will be trading, but I’m not sure how much."
