Job security is low in the life of a footballer - even those deemed talented enough to play at Euro 2024. With a wave of contracts expiring at the end of the month, a number of established stars are set to be temporarily unattached and unemployed. Here, Express Sport takes you through six of the biggest names to fall into that category...

Kasper Schmeichel

The Dane won the Premier League title during his time at Leicester City, and at 37 years old, he is still good enough to start for his national team at a major tournament. His Anderlecht contract expires next week and neither he nor the club have decided to trigger the 12-month extension as yet, leaving his future shrouded in uncertainty.

Adrien Rabiot

While the French international could technically become unemployed, he won't be for long. Juventus have reportedly tabled a big-money contract offer to keep him while the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United have all been linked.

Memphis Depay

The Dutchman's CV includes spells at PSV, Man Utd, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Among Holland's current ranks, he's their top international scorer with 45 goals and he has started both games so far at the Euros. With that in mind, Depay becoming a free agent when he leaves Atletico is even more surprising.

Che Adams

The Scotland striker is weighing up his options after scoring 16 Championship goals in Southampton's successful promotion campaign. The Saints reportedly want to keep Adams, who also has offers from Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

Koen Casteels

The 31-year-old has more than decade of Bundesliga experience, but his contract with Wolfsburg is days away from expiry. Casteels, who is filling in for Belgium's Thibaut Courtois at Euro 2024, could be a shrewd acquisition for any side in need of a goalkeeper.

Ricardo Rodriguez

A veteran of well over 100 Switzerland caps, left-back Rodriguez is approaching the end of a four-year stint at Torino. With previous spells at AC Milan and Wolfsburg, and still only 31 years old, he surely has more left to offer in a top European league.

Honourable mentions

Che Adams aside, Scotland have taken a host of other soon-to-be-out-of-contract players to the Euros including Liam Cooper, Stuart Armstrong and Scott McKenna. Turkish stars Yusuf Yazici and Cenk Tosun are set to leave Lille and Besiktas respectively, while Denmark stalwart Simon Kjaer is coming to the end of a spell with AC Milan. Contracts belonging to Slovakian goalkeeper Marek Rodak and Austrian forward Andreas Weimann are also winding down at Fulham and Bristol City.
