Kevin Campbell's son Tyrese has taken to Instagram following the tragic news of his father's passing, aged 54. Tyrese, who also became a professional footballer and played for Stoke in the Championship last season, penned a heartfelt tribute to the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker.

News broke on Saturday morning that Kevin died in hospital as Arsenal led the tributes on social media, posting: "We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness.

"Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin."

He was a beloved member of the football community and his son received an outpour of support and well-wishes, as Tyrese turned to social media to deliver his "appreciation" for the kind words, asking on behalf of the Campbell family that their privacy be respected after the "indescribable pain" of his father's passing.

"I appreciate my Dad was admired by many and the outpouring of love has been some comfort for us as a family, so thank you for that at such a difficult time," Tyrese wrote on his Instagram story.

"The pain of this is indescribable and as a son you look at your Dad as invincible. He is my idol, the one who I wanted to be when I grew up.

"He was the life and soul of every party and room he blessed, a one in a million person that was loved by everyone, a special special person. I'll miss you Dad.

"I would now ask that the privacy of our family is respected as we mourn the loss of an irreplaceable father, brother, uncle and all round amazing human being. Love you always Dad."

Kevin Campbell, who scored over 100 top-flight goals for teams including Arsenal and Everton, was a frequent visitor to Stoke to watch his 24-year-old son play.

After six years at the Bet365 Stadium, having joined from Manchester City in 2018, Tyrese scored 34 goals for the Potters and made two appearances for England Under-20s as he followed in his father's footsteps.
